North Heights dean recognized for commitment, connection, and creating opportunities that bring students, families, and the TASD community together
For Megan Brown, serving the Texarkana Arkansas School District is personal.
As an alumna of the district, she now has the opportunity to give back to the same schools and community that helped shape her, while creating meaningful experiences for the next generation of Razorbacks.
Brown, Dean of Students at North Heights Community School, has been named the October 2026 District C.A.R.E. Employee Recognition Honoree. The recognition celebrates employees who demonstrate the district’s C.A.R.E. values of Commitment, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence through their service to students, colleagues, families, and the TASD community.
Brown has been part of TASD for 12 years and has worked in education for 14 years. In addition to serving as Dean of Students, she is the TASD Alumni Committee President and serves as the Communications Lead and Parent Involvement Coordinator at North Heights. She previously served as a teacher and coach.
For Brown, the opportunity to serve the district she once attended makes the work especially meaningful.
“As an alumna of the district, TASD holds a special place in my heart, and being able to give back to the same district and community that helped shape me makes my work even more meaningful,” Brown said.
She said one of the most rewarding parts of her work is having the opportunity to make a difference in students’ lives beyond the classroom.
“I love being part of a school community where relationships matter, where we get to celebrate successes, encourage growth, and help students discover their potential,” she said.
Commitment to Students
Of the four C.A.R.E. values, Brown said Commitment resonates most strongly with her.
For Brown, commitment means consistently showing up for students, families, colleagues, and the district while keeping students at the center of the work.
“I believe our students deserve people who show up for them every single day and go above and beyond to help them succeed,” Brown said.
That commitment can be seen throughout the many roles she serves and the opportunities she helps create for students and families.
“I am committed to creating opportunities, building meaningful relationships, supporting our families, and finding ways to make our school and district better,” she said.
Brown said commitment also means being willing to step in wherever needed.
“It means taking pride in what we do, being willing to step in wherever needed, and always keeping students at the center of every decision we make,” she said.
Creating Connections and Traditions
Some of Brown’s most meaningful experiences at TASD have come from helping turn new ideas into experiences that bring people together.
She points to A Day at The Heights, the district’s first Homecoming Parade, and TASD’s refreshed alumni connections and campus tour as projects she has especially enjoyed helping develop.
While each is different, Brown said they share a common purpose.
“They all create opportunities to bring together our students, families, community, and alumni,” Brown said.
For her, much of the reward comes from seeing an idea grow into something people embrace.
“There is something especially rewarding about starting with an idea, putting in the work to make it happen, and then seeing the excitement and participation grow,” she said.
Brown said she hopes those experiences continue growing into traditions that students, families, and alumni can look forward to for years to come.
“I love being able to help create experiences that people look forward to, take pride in, and hopefully become lasting traditions for years to come,” she said.
Inspired by Every Generation
When asked what inspires her to bring her best each day, Brown said the answer is simple: students.
Not only the students she serves today, but the generations of Razorbacks who came before them and those still to come.
“Our students, past, present, and future, inspire me to bring my best each day,” Brown said.
As both a TASD alumna and educator, Brown said that perspective is a reminder that the work taking place in schools today can have an impact far beyond the present moment.
“Knowing the impact we have on the students in front of us today, while also remembering the students who came before them and thinking about those who will walk through our doors in the years to come, reminds me that the work we do matters and reaches far beyond today,” she said.
That sense of purpose is also what makes being selected as the district’s October C.A.R.E. honoree especially meaningful.
“It means a lot to know that the work I put into supporting our students, families, and district is recognized and valued,” Brown said. “I don’t do what I do for recognition, but it is rewarding to know that the time, effort, and heart that go into making our school and community better are making a difference.”
Brown said she is proud to be part of TASD and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to something larger than herself.
“I am proud to be part of TASD and grateful for the opportunity to play a small part in something bigger than myself,” she said.
Through her commitment to students, her work to strengthen connections, and her efforts to create experiences that bring the TASD community together, Megan Brown demonstrates what C.A.R.E. looks like in action across the district.
